The Osa Wildlife Sanctuary is a spectacular center in the southwest of Costa Rica. Home to many orphaned or injured rain forest animals, Carol and her staff do their best to release animals back into the wild whenever possible. For this reason, the spider monkeys in their care are raised without cages, allowing them to forage, socialize, and prepare for life in the wild. Potential volunteers can learn more at their website, and daily tours are also given with boats leaving daily from Puerto Jimenez. If you read Wide-Open World, you know I whole-heartedly endorse this place…in spite of Sweetie’s nibbling affection for me.
